Do You Have A Small Penis?

Defining what a small penis is difficult. Most men seem to think that the average erect penis size is much bigger than it actually is (It's 5 - 5.9 inches or 12.7 - 15 cm.) so will often think that average penises are small. There is a medical definition for what constitutes an abnormally small penis or "micropenis" which is an adult penis that is less than 2.8 inches (7 cm) in length when flaccid and stretched. Micropenises are not particularly common and are usually spotted at birth.

So you could say that anything just above micropenis length could be considered small but as it's only a matter of an extra couple inches before you reach average size you can see that the difference between small and a bit smaller than average isn't particularly wide especially from a visual perspective.

A lot of a man's perception about his own size, erect and otherwise, seems to be drawn from the size of their flaccid penis. For the average heterosexual male discretely comparing his flaccid penis with other men's flaccid penises is one of the main ways of judging his manhood.

The problem with non-erect penises is that they vary more than erect penises. The length ranges from less than 5cm to over 10cm (2 to 5 inches). Men seem to have either a short, dumpy flaccid penis that expands greatly as it become erect or they a long flaccid penis that often just seems to stiffen without much increase in size when it becomes erect.

So if you've got a dumpy one and you stand next to someone with a long, dangling one you may feel inadequate but there's no reason to think that yours may be any smaller than his when fully erect. In fact yours could be the biggest as flaccid size is no indicator of erect size. Of course men with a long flaccid penis are the ones most likely not to cover up too quickly in the locker room which means that these are the types you're most likely to see.

Added to this is the problem of "foreshortening". This is an optical illusion that occurs as you look down at your own penis. So from your angle your penis will look shorter than the one near by even if they are both the same size.

Also if you are overweight your flaccid penis will look smaller. Men who are obese tend to develop a pad of fat in the pubic area which will engulf the flaccid penis. So loosing some weight can help you penis look bigger as can trimming your pubic hair.

As for erect penises most heterosexual males have to look to porn for their idea as to what an erection looks like. Unfortunately male porn stars tend to be chosen on two criteria - the ability to keep it up and an above average sized penis. In porn it's definitely "the bigger the better" as it's easier to shoot the action and with some nifty camera work the porn penis can look even bigger and more impressive. But you have to remember that these are not your average, normal penises. The majority of men have something smaller.
